TEXAS Woman Accused of Using Instagram to Lure Two Teens Into Deadly Robbery Ambush Finally Arrested Years Later

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS — A years-long double murder investigation in San Antonio has now led to a capital murder arrest after detectives say a woman used Instagram messages to lure two teenagers into a deadly robbery setup. The case centers on the killings of 19-year-old Gregorio Ricardo Cordova-Mejia and 15-year-old Angel Ray Garcia, who were both shot and killed in 2022 at an apartment complex on the city’s South Side.

Authorities say 21-year-old Angie Morales is now charged with capital murder in connection with the deadly shooting. Investigators believe Morales communicated with Cordova-Mejia through Instagram before the murders and helped bring the victims to the Union Pines Apartments on Pleasanton Road. Police say the teens arrived at the complex believing they were meeting Morales, but investigators now believe the meeting was actually part of a planned robbery that turned into a double homicide.

The shooting happened during the early morning hours of July 29, 2022, near Building 28 of the apartment complex. According to investigators, gunfire broke out around 3 a.m., leaving both teenagers fatally wounded. Angel Garcia was reportedly found on the second floor of the complex, while Cordova-Mejia was found near a breezeway area below. Both victims died at the scene before they could be taken to a hospital.

Detectives recovered shell casings from the area and reviewed surveillance footage that reportedly captured parts of the shooting and the moments after it happened. Witnesses also told police they saw two males running from the scene immediately after the gunfire. Those details became important because investigators are not accusing Morales of being the person who pulled the trigger. Instead, police say she played a role in setting up the meeting that led to the robbery and killings.

For years, the case remained unsolved as detectives continued reviewing digital evidence, witness statements, phone data, and surveillance footage. The investigation eventually gained new momentum after a confidential informant allegedly provided information that helped connect Morales to the setup. Police say phone location records placed Morales near the apartment complex around the time of the shooting, and investigators believe Instagram messages helped show how the victims were lured to the location.

Morales was reportedly 17 years old at the time of the killings, but she has now been arrested as an adult. Under Texas law, a person can face capital murder charges if prosecutors believe they participated in a crime that resulted in multiple deaths, even if that person is not accused of being the shooter. In this case, investigators believe Morales was involved as a party to the alleged robbery setup that ended with two teenagers dead.

Morales was booked into the Bexar County Jail, where her bond was set at $250,000. Police have not publicly identified the two males witnesses reported seeing running from the scene, and it remains unclear whether additional arrests will be made. The case is still active as prosecutors move forward with one of San Antonio’s most disturbing social media luring murder cases.
