Mississippi Former Football Standout D.D. Bowie Killed In Rankin County Shooting; Two Teens Charged With Murder

A former Mississippi football standout who once played for Ole Miss and Jackson State is dead, and five people are now facing charges after a disturbance in Rankin County turned into a deadly shooting.

Authorities identified the victim as 27-year-old Idarrious Iantron Bowie, also known as D.D. Bowie. He was from Lena, Mississippi, and before his death, he was known across the state for his football career. Bowie graduated from Morton High School, became a highly rated recruit, played defensive back at Ole Miss, and later transferred to Jackson State, where he played wide receiver.

The shooting happened Friday evening, June 5, 2026, at a home in the 100 block of Adams Road in Rankin County. According to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the scene shortly after 6 p.m. after a disturbance reportedly escalated into gunfire.

When deputies arrived, they found Bowie suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital, but he did not survive.

Investigators said witnesses reported seeing a small gray car leaving the scene with multiple people inside. From there, detectives began processing the scene, interviewing witnesses, and collecting evidence tied to the shooting. Authorities also said one firearm was recovered during the investigation.

Within hours, the case led to multiple arrests.

Eighteen-year-old Ladarious Harrison and 19-year-old Dominick Sanabria were both charged with murder in Bowie’s death. Three others — Michael Mitchell, 46-year-old Semiko Crump, and 18-year-old Kaylee Trimble — were charged with accessory after the fact of murder.

All five suspects appeared in court on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. Harrison and Sanabria pleaded not guilty to the murder charges, and both were ordered held without bond as the case moves forward.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains active. Sheriff Bryan Bailey called the shooting a senseless act of violence and said investigators are still working to hold everyone involved accountable. Officials have also said more arrests are possible if detectives determine anyone else helped the suspects after the shooting.

For Bowie’s family, the case is now about justice for a 27-year-old whose life ended after what authorities say began as a disturbance and turned into gunfire. For Mississippi football fans, his death also marks the loss of a former standout athlete who carried his name from Morton High School to Ole Miss, then to Jackson State, before his life was cut short in Rankin County.
